My Experience as a Copy Editor, Reviewer and Reader
Experience: It all started with ARC reading and book reviews. As I read through a story, even when I am just reading it for entertainment, I naturally see errors and inconsistencies. I began making notes of the items I found and suggestions for how to change them. Then, if I had a way to contact the author directly via their social media or website, I would reach out to them and offer my edits to them to thank them for the entertainment. I consistently copy edited and proofread in this manner for several years. Then for a year I copy edited for an author for free to gain experience, and for the enjoyment of helping make the stories come to life clearly, without distracting errors or inconsistencies. With that experience, I have now opened my business and am excited to help more authors with the rules of words, so they can focus on the wonderful stories they are creating.
I am most experienced in editing romance, fantasy, young adult and suspense genres. I have some experience in a large variety of other fictional genres as well. While my copy editing and proofreading follow the expected grammar style guides and rules of words, I also follow the author’s individual style. I will reach out to the author to discuss what type of language they want to have in their characters' conversations and thoughts.
I also have some experience editing procedural manuals. I do not intend to focus my business on that type of editing, but am willing to consider it.
I have been an avid reader my entire life, and always have a book with me. In school I took as many literature and writing classes as I could fit into my schedules. I have an AA degree that leans heavily into literature and psychology.
